Project Gosling - Agency establishment

Project Description

At the start of the semester, when groups were formed, we were given the task to invent an agency for our group, which we would present ourselves as in the face of the client.
Loosey Goosey Logo

The Goal

Invent an agency brand from 0, create a brand guide with assets and write a motivation letter to our desired client project(s).

The Process

We began with a team building exercise, to break the ice (LO5) and get to know the design process expected in this semester (LO1).

After this we distributed group roles, where I chose the role of asset manager (LO2, LO4) and was chosen as group leader (LO5)

Then we brainstormed logos, after figuring out or direction I digitized the logo sketch (LO1, LO3) and conducted user research to figure out the best variation to finalize (LO4).

After which, Iurie developed the website for our Agency, which I, as asset manager, prepared and hosted the GIT repository for (LO2).

Finally, we chose the Dragon's Den as our preffered project and chose a video format for our pitch to the client (LO1), here me an Iurie mainly wrote the script & storyboard, then we filmed as a group and I edited the video while the others wrote the supplementary letter.

Reflection

Overall, I was personally satisfied with the result of our Agency. When we were aiming for "Vision" at first, it didn't allow us much creative expression, so I'm happy we went with something mroe free (i.e. Loosey Goosey).
I wish I kept better track of our creative process at the time, as we made many many logos with many variations and gathered feedback from different points of view, which is for the most part lost now.

Project Hydra - Dragon's Den live production event

Project Description

This event was all about turning the Dragon's Den school event, into a live production show with the Pixel Playground at the center.

The Goal

Using live production software, bring all the systems of the Pixel Playground together with assets crafted by the group to elevate the Dragon's Den event while providing a solution for the limited space through live streaming.

The Process

In each phase of the project, there were two main things being worked on in parralel, delivering the appropiate assets for the showcases of the phase, but also making progress to making the event itself.

Concept phase:

  • Create a convincing pitch for the client LO1
  • Create a concept poster for the showcase LO1 LO3
  • Give feedback to and receive from peers LO4
  • Conduct tests to decide on the most effective concept poster LO4
  • Storyboard scenes and sketch equipment positions for the event LO1

Prototype phase:

  • Present physical prototype of product with "wizard of Oz" OBS setup LO1
    • Note down feedback from peers and professionals to implement to the mockup event LO4
  • Prepare and set up mockup event to test functionalities in live scenario LO1
    • Host mockup event LO5
  • Draft ideas for transferability for the client LO2

Delivery phase:

  • Make transfer from OBS prototype to Vertex for the final event LO1
    • Host final event LO5
  • Prepare the final "product launch" presentation using Vertex LO1
  • Implement drafted transferability features and document process LO2

Reflection

This project took an unholy amount of time and effort to see through. Especially as the project leader, I constantly felt like I had to work twice as hard as my peers to set a good example.
It honestly stressed me out a lot, but I feel like I learned so much at the same time.
If I could have continued working on this project after the deadline, I feel like I could rapidly make improvements to the quality and add redundancy to the Vertex and OBS setup behind the event, but sadly our time has run out.

Portfolio Website - Adapt & Upgrade S2 website to fit S3 standards.

Project Description

After my first evaluation, it was concluded that continuing where I left off on my website from semester 2 to document my portfolio content.
Since it had a proven method of displaying my content and would allow for first-party hosting of external documents.

The Goal

Therefore, I took up the challenge of bringing the website up to speed, but also adding some improvements to raise its standards up to something (hopefully) more "media-worthy" for a semester 3 student.

The Process

  • Replace semester 2 content with semester 3 content LO3
  • Restructure LO entry content for clarity LO1
  • Integrate changelog-style color coding from the reading guide LO3
  • Add additional layers of transferability LO2
  • Revamp projects page to easily explain all media products I worked on (you are here)
  • Revamp "about me" page to round off my website and make it consistent with my accordion-style information displaying LO1

Reflection

As I have mentioned a couple of times previously, I was not happy working on this website.
At the beginning of the semester, I had a more fulfilling portfolio idea in mind, that being in the form of a video personal to me and who I am as a person.
Because I shifted focus to the website, however, I could no longer find the time (within my study hours) to continue working on the creative project and just dumped the rest on my energy on this.
Even still, the website I have produced as of writing this isn't even one that I am personally satisfied with, and because I personally can't even see it as media-worthy, I fear what my assessors might end up thinking of it.

Project Avatar - Autumn break VRC avatar overhaul

Project Description

For a while, I'd been wanting to work on another big avatar project (since my personal project in semester 2).
I considered creating a new set of facial expressions for my already existing avatar, but soon realized I had already reached the limit of what I could do with it due to its the base model's age.
At the same time, the autumn break hit, which is when I decided to overhaul my model using a modern base.

The Goal

Overhaul personal avatar for VR in a way that personifies my evolution in style over the years.

The Process

  • Start in blender to get all fundemental parts done, move to Unity to add interactivity and prepare for use + reflect on VR asan emerging technology LO1
  • Add features supporting transferability to continue good practice, even if it's a personal project LO2
  • Reflect on process and consider potential career paths based on work done to complete this project LO5

Reflection

As I have done a reflection on this project in LO5, I will keep things brief here:
Despite how much time and effort I spent on the project over the break, I barely felt the hours pass by.
This line of work is one that brings me immense personal fulfillment, especially when I am able to do it for others who want a new way to show their personal identities.
Therefore, I feel quite confident in saying I would like to work in a profession that produces these kinds of personalized creations.
